ImpaLango ("we", "our", "the app") is an AI-powered augmented reality language learning app for iOS. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data.

1. Data We Collect

Data stored on your device only:

Vocabulary words you learn (translations, pronunciation scores, mastery levels)
Learning progress (streaks, session history, daily goals)
Achievements and game results
App preferences (languages, notification settings)

This data is stored locally on your device and optionally backed up to your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

Camera and microphone:

Camera data is processed on-device for object detection and AR display. Images are never transmitted to our servers.
Microphone audio is used for pronunciation practice via Apple's Speech framework and Google Cloud Speech-to-Text. Audio is processed in real-time and is not stored.

Analytics (Mixpanel):

We collect anonymous usage events (e.g., words learned, sessions started, features used) to improve the app experience.
We do not collect names, email addresses, or other personally identifiable information through analytics.
Analytics data is sent to Mixpanel's EU servers.

2. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services:

Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — generates native pronunciation audio.
Google Cloud Speech-to-Text — processes your spoken pronunciation attempts.
Google Gemini AI — powers AI conversation features.
Mixpanel — anonymous usage analytics.
Apple iCloud / CloudKit — optional backup of your learning data.

Each service is governed by its own privacy policy.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Data is only transmitted to the third-party services listed above for the sole purpose of providing app functionality.

4. Data Retention

Your learning data remains on your device and in your iCloud account for as long as you use the app. Deleting the app removes all local data. You can manage iCloud data through your device's iCloud settings.

5. Children's Privacy

ImpaLango is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your Rights

Since your data is stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account, you have full control over it. You can delete all app data by uninstalling the app and removing the iCloud backup from your device settings.

7. Subscriptions

ImpaLango offers optional premium subscriptions managed through Apple's App Store. Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not have access to your payment information.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date.
